Sound Tester

Someone’s gotta be sorting all these goddamn cables, pain in the ass that it may be. So that’s what you’re doing. Sorting all these goddamn. Fucking. Cables. And maybe when you’re done with that, you can get back to testing sound as a medium for communication, warfare, art, and maybe more. But first the cables.

Spellcasting
Your magic owes itself to sound, before all else. Sound Testers are marked by their ability to take music in all its forms and stretch it beyond, quite literally testing the sound’s resilience, its limits, and its capabilities. As a side effect of this, a Sound Tester is incapable of casting without an instrument, and which instrument they use has a direct impact upon their spells. Diversifying one’s musical range can lead to the same spell being useful in different ways, depending on the instrument employed.

Spellcasting Ability
Imagination is your spellcasting ability for your Sound Tester Spells. The only limit to what you can do with an instrument is your own Imagination, naturally.
Spell Save DC: 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Imagination modifier
Spell Attack Modifier: your proficiency bonus + your Imagination modifier

Known Spells and all that
As you continue to test the limits of sound, you devise new and interesting ways with which to utilize it. With each level up, you’ll learn a set number of new spells, which can be of any level you have spell slots in. Spells can be found here.

Always Learning
As part of your aims of testing sound to its breaking points, you are always attempting to broaden your abilities with music. At 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th level, you’ll gain proficiency with a new instrument of your choice. Note that you’ll still have to go and either find or buy this instrument in order to use it and take advantage of this proficiency, but when you do, you’ll be able to use it.

Proper Frequency
The headset is one of the simplest yet most effective tools in the Sound Tester’s arsenal, allowing for a controlled listening experience, and this really comes to a head at 2nd level. While wearing your headset, you can overhear any conversation taking place in a [15 x your Sound Tester level] foot radius. Certain other magical effects may cause audio interference, but excepting those, the auditory realm is your oyster.

Noise Damper
With all the noise a party can make, a little peace and quiet can do wonders every now and then. At 4th level, you gain the ability to cast Silence without expending a spell slot, or using an action, once per rest. You gain an additional use of this ability per rest at 6th level.

Tuned Ear
Speech, when considered carefully, is just another kind of sound to test, examine, analyze. No reason you can’t hear what somebody means instead of what they say. As such, at 6th level you gain the ability to cast Hear Truth without expending a spell slot, or using an action, once per rest. You gain an additional use of this ability per rest at 8th level.

Take 5
Even the best audio engineers need a break every now and again, and frankly, it’s just good policy for that break to include the entirety of cast and crew. So at 8th level, once per rest, you can call for a five-minute break from everything, where you and your allies can relax, listen to some music, and regain [5d5 + your imagination modifier] hit points.

One Man Band
In your quest to test sound to its breaking point, you’ve kinda become pretty good with music, haven’t you? Well, 10th level seems like the best time to put that to the test. As such, you now have the ability to cast Cacophony without expending a spell slot once per rest for each instrument you have on you that you’re also proficient with.
